At Aquest Design, we make sure our workplace designs are built on three principles. They are foundations we turn to on every project, from a 100-person office to a 1,000-person headquarters.

Principle 1: Design for Focus and Collaboration

A finance team and a sales team do not necessarily need the same room. Neither does the same person on a deep-work Tuesday versus a workshop Thursday. Great workplaces offer the right balance and flexibility between open areas, quiet zones, and meeting rooms, so each person and team can find the environment best suited to its tasks.

Spaces that reflect your identity, where color, layout, and lighting convey your organizational culture and foster a sense of belonging, become a powerful driver of employer branding and employee retention.

What this looks like in practice:

• Translating brand values into spatial decisions
• A colour palette grounded in your identity and in how each zone should feel
• Lighting layered by function and by mood

Principle 3: Design for Health

Investing in your teams’ health by incorporating biophilia, natural light, and appropriate furniture becomes a true pillar of engagement and performance. Systematic reviews of biophilic workplace design point to measurable psychological, physiological, and cognitive benefits (Source). One office study found that introducing plants significantly improved occupants’ perceived attention, creativity, and productivity, with those gains reversing when the plants were removed (Source).

What this looks like in practice:

• Planning the floor plan so that all team members have access to natural light, not just perimeter offices

• Ergonomic, height-adjustable furniture
• Attention to air quality, thermal comfort, lighting, and materials
