At the forefront of autism education and inclusion for nearly 45 years, Giant Steps offers a mix of intensive educational therapeutic programs, offered to students aged four to 21.
With specialised services and educational programs for autistic adults, Giant Steps develops skills leading to employment, in all its forms, as well as greater independence at home and in the community. In addition, Giant Steps plays a vital role in autism research and training across all sectors.
Opened in September 2023, the Giant Steps Centre meets the changing lifespan needs of autistic individuals, their families and professionals in the field.
Giant Steps had been a longtime client of Aquest Design for specialized furniture, so the inspiring vision of the brand new, world-class Autism Centre as Giant Steps’ new home was an exciting project for our team to embark on. The new Giant Steps school will be a beacon at the forefront of Autism Education for many years to come, and Aquest is honored to be a part of that story.
Services Provided
Aquest worked closely with the client to complete a room-by-room needs analysis for every space in the school. Taking into account the specific needs of the students, Aquest supplied test fit plans and budgeting throughout the process, until every room had exactly the components required for the dedicated use of the space. Early in the project Aquest provided renderings of the furnished future space, to help Giant Steps prepare presentations for potential donors. Aquest provided furniture throughout the whole school, including a variety of classrooms, decompression rooms, sensory rooms, training spaces, lounge areas, computer rooms, and the library. Aquest then provided a white-glove installation service, within a tight timeline available between construction completion and the grand opening.
